Sydney’s fashion hotspot of Surry Hills is home to this family-owned wholesaler that’s been in the rag trade for nearly 60 years. The good thing is E & M Greenfield also sells to the public at wholesale prices. Here you’ll find quality fabric, ribbons and trimmings, though there are some conditions on the quantities that you can buy. Ribbons and trims are available in full rolls only (check out the new range of sequinned and pleated lace trims) and fabric is sold in full rolls or by the metre. This carries a cutting charge of a minimum of $3.60 per cut plus GST. There is a large range of solid-colour fashion fabrics (patterned fabrics are limited) and loads of different styles of lace, beading, brooches and artificial flowers. The collection of silk is massive, with around 20 different types (non-patterned) to choose from. Choose your fabric from the catalogues and sample books, or even online, rather than browsing shelves. Your items will be brought to you from the stockroom. Don’t forget to rummage through the bargain barrels at the front of the store, filled with bits and pieces such as zips, elastic and bags of buttons for reduced prices.
